The Duffers

We've lost a lot of club head speed over the years.

Greetings Fellow Duffers

The heat beat the field today, and Diane won the points. It was a close one, Diane won by 2 strokes over Pete Champagne at net one under par at 70. Pete Schmehl took an early lead and was 6 or 7 strokes under par at one point on the front 9. But his fun meter sank to an empty tank and he finished 5 over par. His group claimed that Schemehl fell into a pond somewhere on the course?? He was waste deep in a foot of water...

That was Diane's first official win during league play for points. Winners so far were Beers, Goserud, Champagne, Price, Krepps, and Diane. A different winner each week!

For the points chase, Diane now moves up to the elite group in the lead with Champagne and Goserud at 11 points!

We started the week with 12 signed up. We lost 3 due to heat or injury. However, the heat was fairly tolerable due to a 10-15 mph breeze on the hillsides, and Blue Mountain has either an elevated tee, green, or both on just about every hole and we could catch a breeze somewhere. The day finished with three 3somes. Bonneville took an early exit. The first 3some played in 3 hours. The other two groups trickled in about 20 minutes apart.

Course was in decent shape. Ground was a bit hard, greens were average speed, fairways, tees, and roughs all were pretty good. The ponds and creek had water in them...ask Schmehl. With the greens being moderate speed, more approach shots held the green this week (if we hit the green) compared to last week at Berkleigh.

Dinner was at the nearby Fredericksburg Eagle Hotel. The first group got there at 4:00, an hour ahead of the reservation time, and had to indulge at the bar until the large table was ready. Dinner went fast with 9 people, and we were out of there by 6pm. Everyone had soup and salad to warm up and eat healthy....

Next week is Overlook in Lancaster. Trees to the left, trees to the right!

Later! Statman BeerZ

News

Having been unable to find a collective word for the terms par, birdie, eagle, etc., I have coined the term "Mark" since the score card is often "marked up" with a circle, square, etc. to indicate pars, birdies, etc.

Therefore, a "Net Mark" is the "Mark" for the hole after the handicap is applied.
